Guided Moose Hunts In Saskatchewan
Gunson Guiding & Outfitting operates two separate Canadian moose hunting areas in Saskatchewan. Together, these areas cover about 8,000 square miles of excellent moose habitat made up of untold numbers of lakes, rivers, swamps and forests.
The right hunt depends on whether you are coming alone, with a friend, or with a group, the area, access, camp setup, and the kind of moose hunting trip you are looking for.
Wilderness Moose Hunting In Remote Saskatchewan Country
Saskatchewan hunting is a good fit for hunters who want a serious wilderness-style adventure – we do not offer luxury lodge-style hunts.
The country is remote, and difficult to access in places. Our wilderness moose hunts are conducted in areas accessed by float plane, boat, canoe and/or ATV, and are conducted during the rut: mid-September through mid-October.
Guided Moose Hunts
When we’re planning your Saskatchewan hunting trip, let us know:
- 1. How many hunters are coming: All our hunts are based on a 1x1 guide/hunter ratio. Moose hunting is NOT a group activity. By special request, we can sometimes accommodate 2 hunters in the same camp.
- 2. What kind of access you are comfortable with: Float Plane, Canoe, ATV, and/or Horses
- 3. What timing and budget you are working with. All our moose hunts are in September/early October, and the price ranges from $15K to $25K.
- 4. What kind of camp setup you expect: We operate out of a couple of 'remote' cabin camps, but much of our hunting is done from mobile (non-permanent) tent camps that are set up during your hunt.
Area 62 Saskatchewan Moose Hunting
Area 62 is our southern Saskatchewan moose territory, and it is unique because most of the hunting is done from canoes.
This is not a fly-in hunting area. We get there over land and water, using ATV and/or boat access to reach base camp. The camp itself is an old school trapper’s camp about 20 miles past the end of the road.
The camp sits along a small river that can be very difficult to travel on. For more adventurous hunters, we load tents into the canoes and travel deeper into unhunted areas.
Area 71 Fly-In Moose Hunting Camp
Area 71 is our fly-in Saskatchewan moose hunting area. In this area, Gunson Outfitting generally uses float planes to access the dozens of lakes and rivers we hunt throughout this vast wilderness area.
We have a few lakes with cabins that we can hunt from. On many other lakes and rivers, we fly in and set up a tent camp when we arrive. Some lakes have boats, while others require us to fly in canoes for the hunt.

Saskatchewan Moose Fly-in Lake Hunts
Sept 12 to Oct 06
A float plane drops you on an untouched lake in Northern Saskatchewan. Pure wilderness. Usually 1 hunter per lake/year, unless you bring a friend.
Cabins, tents, boats, canoes, and/or ATVs – we will find the right hunt for you. No need to walk or ride for miles. During the rut, your guide will call the moose to you.
- Best for: Hunters looking for a fly-in wilderness moose hunt with minimal pressure.
- Access: Float plane into remote lakes and rivers.
- Camp style: Cabins on some lakes, tent camps on others.
Saskatchewan Moose River Hunts
Oct 01 to Oct 14
Hunt by canoe, boat, and/or ATV. Stay in cabins and/or tents. You drive to our trailhead, and we take you deep into the wilderness.
Meat or trophy hunts available; we will customize the hunt for your group. Excellent opportunities for a serious canoe hunting adventure.
- Best for: Hunters looking for a hands-on wilderness hunt with flexible access methods.
- Access: Drive-in to trailhead, then boat, canoe, and/or ATV.
- Camp style: Cabins and/or tent camps.
British Columbia Moose: Early Season Horseback Hunts
Sept 01 to Oct. 15
Mountain hunt by horse and/or ATV. Extremely limited number of permits in high-density moose habitat, with options for elk, deer, and bear.
- Best for: Hunters looking for a northern BC moose hunt, with good odds on a 50" plus bull moose.
- Access: ATV and/or Horseback into mountain terrain.
- Camp style: Cabin base with remote spike camps as required.
Saskatchewan Moose Hunting FAQs
Is this a 1x1 moose hunt?
Probably: All our hunts are set up by default as 1×1 hunts. We can occasionally take 2 hunters from the same camp. Our Saskatchewan moose hunts have different setups depending on the package. Most fly-in lake hunts are usually one hunter per lake per year, unless you bring a friend. River hunts can sometimes accommodate up to 3 hunters.
When do Saskatchewan moose hunts take place?
During the Rut: Our Saskatchewan fly-in lake hunts run from September 12 to October 6, and our Saskatchewan river hunts run from October 1 to October 14.
Are Saskatchewan moose hunts cheaper than BC moose hunts?
Generally, yes. Saskatchewan is the lower overall investment compared with GG Outfitting’s Northern BC moose hunts.
That does not make Saskatchewan a lesser hunt. It is a different kind of Canadian moose hunt, and for the right hunter, it can be the better fit.
Are Saskatchewan moose smaller than BC moose?
Yes, on average. That being said, we have harvested B&C class bulls in Saskatchewan.
Saskatchewan is a good fit for hunters who want a real Canadian moose hunt in a remote country without the higher cost of Northern BC.
Do I need an air charter for a Saskatchewan moose hunt?
It depends on the package. Saskatchewan fly-in lake hunts are accessed by float plane. Saskatchewan river hunts are drive-in to the trailhead, then continue by boat, canoe, and/or ATV.

Can I hunt by canoe in Saskatchewan?
Yes. Canoe hunting is part of the Saskatchewan moose hunting program, especially in Area 62 and river hunt setups.
