Jake grew up in Manitoba, hunting, fishing and riding horses. He started moose hunting in 1986, and now has over 30 years of experience guiding in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, the Yukon, and the Northwest Territories. Cecilia grew up hunting, fishing and camping with her family in the Northwest Territories. In the 1990s, Jake and Cecilia started working together in hunting camps in the Yukon, and never looked back.
The Gunsons started outfitting in 2001 with an archery-only whitetail outfit in Manitoba. After several years, they moved on to different opportunities: Jake as an Environmental Scientist, and Cecilia as an Occupational Therapist. But it did not work. They could not get the outfitting bug out of their system. In 2011, they decided it was time to get back to the life that they loved.
From the early days of whitetail outfitting, they moved on to moose, caribou, and Stone Sheep hunts on the Yukon border. Over time, their focus also expanded closer to home in Saskatchewan.
Since 2011, GGO’s specialty has remained moose hunting. Today, they provide moose hunts in three different guide areas across Saskatchewan and British Columbia, with about 8,000 square miles of hunting territory. As always, they offer an excellent selection of hunts, including several different moose hunts, Rocky Mountain elk, mountain goat, whitetail deer, and a variety of black bear hunts. They have also recently added a Saskatchewan fly-in fishing camp to the mix.
From the beginning, GGO has operated as a small family-run business, with kids and grandparents all working together in the bush. They have always focused on offering Canadian wilderness adventure hunts for a wide variety of top-quality game and fish. Although they operate several camps, all of them are small, with only a handful of hunters moving through most camps in a week or season.
Hunters looking for a more personal experience often appreciate that approach. The focus has never been on volume. It has always been in remote country, quality hunting areas, and a well-run camp experience with experienced Canadian outfitters.
